Groups report endorsing, rejecting propositions

The Travis County Democratic Party has endorsed Proposition A on the May 1 ballot, which would give Austin firefighters the authority to require the city to participate in binding arbitration. The party has also urged its members to reject Prop B, the public camping ban.

Two of the larger Democratic clubs in Travis County also asked their members to weigh in on the propositions. While the South Austin Democrats considered all the propositions, Central Austin Democrats were strapped for time, according to the group’s president, Michael Gaudini, so they did not have a forum on propositions A, B and C.

Central Austin Democrats did come out against Proposition D, changing the date of the mayoral election to concede with presidential election years; Prop E, ranked-choice voting (currently not allowed by state law); Prop H, known as Democracy Dollars; and props F and G, the strong-mayor proposal and adding another Council district. Ninety-two percent of those voting came out against Prop F.

South Austin Democrats announced their endorsement of propositions A, C and E. Prop C would move oversight of the police monitor to City Council.

Proposition F, the strong-mayor proposal, continues to garner opposition leading up to election day. On Monday, the group Austin for All People released a list of organizations that have come out against Prop F, including:
