As of Wednesday, just three days into early voting for the May 7 Joint General and Special Elections, a total of 19,587 Travis County voters (3.3 percent of registered voters) had cast their ballots. That number includes 4,176 voters who mailed in their ballots. The two most popular early voting locations so far – both of which are in North Austin – have been the Randalls grocery store at Research Boulevard and Braker Lane (1,679 ballots cast) and the Ben Hur Shrine Center (1,360 ballots). It probably goes without saying that the major ballot issue in this election is Proposition 1, which – if successful – would replace the current regulations for transportation network companies (e.g., Uber and Lyft) with less restrictive rules favored by the two TNCs. Nonetheless, there may be other items for voters to consider as well, depending on where they live, as this sample ballot shows.
