The Austin History Center and the Austin Public Library are hosting a discussion next week ahead of the theatrical debut of TOWER, a documentary about the 1966 mass shooting at the University of Texas. TOWER director and producer Keith Maitland will be there along with retired news anchor Neal Spelce, who witnessed the shooting while a reporter for KTBC. The event not only celebrates the Oct. 21 theatrical release of the film, which won several awards at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, but it also marks the anniversary of the shooting, which occurred 50 years ago on Aug. 1. The discussion will take place Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the Austin History Center, which is also hosting a photo exhibit about the shooting, “Looking Back: 50 Years After the UT Tower Shooting.”
