The Colorado Land Trust announced Thursday that it has received a $1 million grant that will allow it to purchase and “conserve 600 acres of coastal wetlands along East Matagorda Bay.” The group said the grant, awarded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, will allow it to preserve the land for education, recreation and environmental purposes. Central Texas is just one part of a larger effort, which includes projects in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. The Lower Colorado River Authority created the trust in 2012 to do precisely this kind of work.
