Council spending for May 15, 2014

We at the Monitor are excited to introduce a new feature after every City Council Meeting. Often overlooked, expenditures make up an important part of the nuts and bolts of city government.
Here is a detailed look at expenditures Council authorized last week:
· $423,607.50 on the 2014 Miscellaneous Streets Fog Seal Project (preventive maintenance).
· $1,170,435 on the 2014 Miscellaneous Streets Slurry Seal and Micro-Surfacing Project.
· $2,203,089.68 on the 2014 Miscellaneous Streets Overlay Project.
· $153,873.88 to address the impact of unforeseen asbestos discovered in boiler 3 of the Holly Street Power Plant Demolition Project. This would raise the original amount of the contract from $12,059,743 to $12,214,616.
· $237,000 for the African American Cultural Heritage District for educational, historic preservation and economic development services.
· $1,505,904 to lease an additional 7,697 square feet of space located at 1124 South Interstate 35.
· $78,882 for electrical distribution panel boards and circuit breakers. Note: There are two 24-month extension options for $78,882 each that could bring the total contract amount to $236,646.
· $1,965,000 to Kimley Horn & Associates for their Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS), a bicycle safety feature. Note: There are two 12-month extension options at $500,000 each that could bring the total to $2,965,000.
· $180,828 to Equipment Depot to provide aerial man lift preventative maintenance and repair services. Note: There are three 12-month extension options at $60,276 each that could bring the total to $361,656
· $292,800 to purchase sodium chloride in bulk to be used by the Austin Water Utility’s Water Treatment Plant 4. Note: There are two 12-month extension options at $146,400 each that could bring the total amount to $585,600.
· $1.8 million for legal services related to the Waller Creek Tunnel Project.
All totaled up, the City Council spent $10,011,420.06 at Thursday’s meeting.
