Mike Cannatti, who is part of the Barton Springs Conservancy Capital Campaign Steering Committee, addressed the Environmental Commission to alert them that the city is nearing a junction at which point they will need to address a long-term plan to improve water flow at Barton Springs Pool. As part of the 2008 Barton Springs Master Plan, the city commissioned studies to assess water flow and potential flood controls in and around Barton Springs. As of this week, the city has received all the studies except one, which is currently being finalized. Cannatti said that the question the Barton Springs Conservancy and the city are trying to answer is, “Can we make the pool work like the naturally flowing waterway it was meant to be?” He predicted that, based upon the conclusions drawn from the studies, the city will need to conduct a project feasibility study, which will cost between $200,000 and $400,000. Commissioner Mary Ann Neely requested that this topic be brought back to the Environmental Commission at a later date for further discussion.
