The city of Bastrop announced Tuesday that a draft land use code is now available for public review and comment. A Planning and Zoning meeting will launch the public review process today at Bastrop City Hall, starting at 6 p.m. In stark contrast to Austin’s own code rewrite, Bastrop’s code rewrite was launched in August 2018 and the draft code is 137 pages. In addition to today’s meeting, the city has also scheduled a Pop-Up Street Project, which will be held on Bastrop’s Main Street on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to a press release, “The event will highlight what future development could look like based on the new land-use regulations, while providing a preview for the new streetscape to come as part of the Main Street rehabilitation project.” In addition, an open house will be held on June 26 at the Bastrop Opera House, with city staff on hand to answer questions about the code from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for developers, and 6:30 to 8 p.m. for the general public.
