There are many ways Austinites can help their city achieve its target of being zero-waste by 2040, a goal that will require the city to keep “at least 90 percent of discarded materials out of the landfill,” according to Austin Resource Recovery. One of the most satisfying ways is by joining Resource Recovery’s Zero-Waste Block Leader program, which “connects green-minded community advocates and neighbors to help educate and increase participation in the city’s recycling, composting, and other residential curbside programs and drop-off services.” At the block leader orientation that’s coming up, you’ll learn how to engage your neighbors and friends on the topics of recycling, composting and reusing. Find out more information and register online. The orientation is Saturday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Windsor Park Library, 5833 Westminster Drive.
