Early results posted for Mayor, Council, Prop 1

Elections officials have released early voting totals for Austin’s Mayor, City Council and Proposition 1 elections. These are very early returns and are likely to change significantly as more returns come in.
In the Mayor’s race, Steve Adler took a strong early lead with 38.53 percent in early voting. Mike Martinez was behind him with 29.62 percent and Sheryl Cole was at 14.73 percent with 93,717 votes cast.
In District 1, Ora Houston took a commanding lead, winning nearly 54 percent of the vote. A distant second was DeWayne Lofton, who earned almost 15 percent of the vote so far. The rest of the vote was split among the other seven candidates, who all won single-digit support. The numbers are based on 7,187 votes cast so far.
Odds-on District 2 favorite Delia Garza did not disappoint in early voting. Garza currently has 66.42 percent of the 4,517 votes cast in her district. Dove Springs Neighborhood Association President Edward “Wally” Reyes finished a distant second with almost 15 percent of the vote.
Siblings Pio Renteria and Susana Almanza emerged as front-runners in District 3, with Almanza barely edging out a lead of 20.84 percent over Renteria’s 20.64 percent. In third place, Fred McGhee earned 16.3 percent of the 5,442 votes cast in the district.
In District 4, Gregorio Casar has a strong lead with almost 39 percent of the vote. At this point, with 4,574 votes cast, Laura Pressley has 23 percent, and Katrina Daniel is in third place with almost 17 percent of the vote.
Ann Kitchen took a large lead in early voting is District 5 with 53.83 percent. Only one other candidate, Mike Rodriguez was in double digits, with 22.8 percent.
In District 6, three candidate are close in early voting returns. Don Zimmerman leads with 26.80 percent, while Jimmy Flannigan is close behind at 26.16 and Jay Wiley is in the running with 23.62 percent. The results are based 4,776 votes cast in the race.
Leslie Pool has a strong lead early in District 7 with 31.22 percent, followed by Jeb Boyt with 17.32 percent, Melissa Zone at 14,45 percent and Ed English at 14.24 percent. Some 10,413 votes were cast in early voting for District 7.
In District 8, early returns show Ellen Troxclair with 26.55 percent, Ed Scruggs with 24.67 percent, Becky Bray with 18.94 percent and Darrell Pierce at 17.39 percent.
Kathie Tovo grabbed a large lead in early returns with 49.76 percent of the votes. Fellow Council incumbent Chris Riley posted 39.94 percent with 11,153 votes cast.
In District 10, Mandy Dealey leads early with 31.73 percent, followed by Sheri Gallo with 21.92 percent and Robert Thomas with 20.20 percent.
In voting for Proposition 1, the transportation bond package, 42.21 percent were for, with 57.79 against.
