Monitor’s Take: This will be the first major event permit handed out since a judge kicked out a lawsuit challenging new revisions to the way the county handles mass gatherings. It is not expected that the Luck Banquet will be as controversial as loud, three-day long EDM festivals.
8. Request to ratify the Certificate of Exemption from Environmental Review for the PY15 Northeast Feeder Route Bus Stops funded by the Community Development Block Grant through HUD. (Judge Eckhardt)
Monitor’s Take: It seems the county is looking to four brand new bus stops in northeastern Travis County from an environmental review required by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. According to the backup material, the review could delay construction on the four stops which are being funded with Community Development Block Grant money.
14. Consider and take appropriate action on the following requests regarding the Travis County Code: a. Amend Chapter 10, § 10.008 Firearms or Other Deadly Weapons, and amend to read § 10.0085 as amended; and, b. Repeal and delete in full Chapter 66, Firearms or Other Deadly Weapons on County Property or in County Vehicles. (Commissioner Gómez)
Monitor’s Take: Changes in state law prompted this item which tweaks the county code and explicitly ban county employees (other than peace officers) from carrying firearms at work or in county vehicles.
