The last time we heard from the Austin Recycles Games, District 8 was in first place for recycling the most trash. But now, according to the latest announcement from Austin Resource Recovery, District 10 has pulled ahead, with residents recycling an average of 136.08 pounds per household since the competition began on Nov. 30. The contest pits all 10 City Council districts against one another to see which can recycle the most overall and which can most dramatically improve its recycling record. The winners – each of which will be awarded a beautification project for a park or library – will be announced on April 23. Right now, District 8 (with 133.51 pounds of recycling per household) is right behind District 10, and District 3 is in third place (at 110 pounds). Meanwhile, District 9 is in the lead for most improved. Overall, recycling is up about 6 percent since October, when the city recorded the baseline numbers for the competition.
