Austin Animal Center Director Tawny Hammond couldn’t keep quiet at this month’s Animal Advisory Commission meeting when it came to a story KXAN aired in late February. The report asked the question: Are Austin’s no-kill shelters adopting out dangerous dogs? “I was very disappointed to see how that story came out, because it is not a representation of truth,” said Hammond. She said that bites have gone down in the past five years. “It’s a safe community, and to say it’s not is very irresponsible,” Hammond said, insinuating that the report was done for ratings.
