The Travis County Commissioners Court has put the finishing touches on a brand-new committee that will help guide the refurbished process to build a new civil courthouse. At its regular Tuesday meeting, the court voted 4-0-1, with Commissioner Ron Davis abstaining, to appoint SafePlace President Julia Spann to chair the Citizen Advisory Committee, a 24-person body that will act as a sounding board for county planners as they put together alternative proposals for the replacement of the Heman Marion Sweatt Courthouse. Once officially convened, the committee will hit the ground running. During a briefing in February, county staff told the court it planned on having ready as early as May their “final findings regarding the most viable sites and potential project scope” of the proposed courthouse.
