More than two dozen roosters captured in the course of a Valentine’s Day cockfighting bust are now in recovery and needing homes, according to an announcement from Animal Services. Not all of the roosters survived the injuries incurred before their rescue by Travis County sheriff’s deputies, but the 26 that did survive are now in good health at the Austin Animal Center. Although the birds are docile, their new owners will need to be mindful of the ongoing rehabilitation process needed to care for the traumatized animals. “During the birds’ rehabilitation process they should be kept isolated from other roosters and hens while they acclimate to life as happy, healthy roosters,” according to Animal Services.
