The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is now accepting applications for this year’s Letters About Literature contest. Open to students in grades 4-12, the competition is a project of the Texas Center for the Book and the Library of Congress. Students are asked “write to an author (living or deceased) about how his or her book affected their lives,” according to a press release from the Texas Center for the Book. The best letter writers will not only get the chance to win $100 and go to San Antonio for the 2016 Texas Library Association Annual Conference, but they may also qualify to win $1,000 and go to the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. More information about the contest is available here. The deadline for students in grades 9 through 12 is Dec. 2; students in grades 4 through 8 have until Jan. 9.
