Thanks to ongoing “dry conditions with high temperatures,” the Travis County Commissioners Court has extended the burn ban, otherwise set to expire Aug. 12, for unincorporated areas of the county, according to a notice issued by Travis County Emergency Services. The ban prohibits most outdoor fires, with the exception of grilling in containers that can be closed. (Do “have water nearby in case the fire spreads,” advises the county.) Prescribed burns and “outdoor hot work” are also allowed, with permits. The ban is now set to expire Sept. 9, with the court scheduled to revisit the matter on Sept. 6 to determine whether further extension is warranted.
