The entrance to the Govalle neighborhood pool is currently a blank canvas in need of an artist, according to the city. The Art in Public Places program, which is part of the Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department, is seeking to commission a local or regional artist to create “an iconic location marker” at the pool’s entrance. “Artists who are new to public art or work primarily in 2-dimensions are particularly encouraged to apply for this opportunity,” according to a press release from the city. The application deadline is Thursday, Oct. 27. Artists who are interested in applying may attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Division offices, 201 E. Second St. The division is also holding open office hours to help applicants on Friday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Oct. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. More information is available here.
