The Austin Public Library’s My Library Keeps Me Healthy Initiative will continue for a second year thanks to $74,995 in renewed grant funding from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The initiative brings health screenings and other wellness programming to various branch locations. As part of the program’s second year, social work students will be available at three branch locations – the Central Library, Terrazas and Little Walnut Creek – to help library patrons access health care “by making referrals to agencies where they can find help in Travis County, and coordinating programming with partner agencies.” The initiative also has a digital literacy component, with free assistance provided to library patrons by Austin Free-Net bilingual program specialists.
