President Barack Obama announced today that he intends to nominate Austin’s Sylvia Orozco, co-founder and executive director of the Mexic-Arte Museum, to serve on the National Council on the Arts. Orozco has served Austin’s arts community in a variety of capacities, including as part of the advisory board for the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (from 2008 to 2012) and as a member of the Mayor’s Community Cabinet (from 2009 to 2011).
