Voting fever continued Tuesday with record-breaking turnout at the polls ahead of the Nov. 8 election. Reporting from the county clerk shows that 35,296 people, or 5.26 percent of registered voters, cast ballots at the county’s early voting locations on Tuesday, surpassing Monday’s number (33,677) and more than doubling the 15,593 (2.76 percent) who voted on this day in 2012. The Ben Hur Shrine Temple in North Austin continued to be the most popular voting spot, with 2,733 people casting their ballots. Other busy polling locations included the centrally located Austin Community College at Highland Mall (2,715 voters) and two South Austin spots: the Southpark Meadows Shopping Center (2,332 voters) and the Randalls grocery store at South MoPac Expressway and William Cannon Drive (2,150 voters). For voters who would like to cast a ballot by mail, the deadline to apply is Oct. 28. According to a reminder sent out by the League of Women Voters of Texas, “All registered voters who are over 65, sick or disabled, out of the county on election day and early voting, or in jail but otherwise eligible to vote can vote by mail.” For everyone else, a list of early voting locations is available here.
