Yesterday, Mayor Steve Adler announced that Austin is one of the 10 cities that have been chosen to participate in the PeopleForBikes Big Jump Project. The Colorado-based PeopleForBikes, a nonprofit that promotes cycling, is running a three-year program that will help communities work to achieve one common goal: a boost in bicycle ridership. The city expects local groups to see hundreds of thousands of dollars in investment through the program to improve connectivity in Austin’s central core. “Biking helps our city in so many ways – household affordability, low-carbon mobility, community health and competitive attractiveness as a world-class city,” said Adler. “It’s not about what we can do for bikes – it’s about what bikes can do for Austin.”
