Austin has ambitious Zero Waste goals. By 2040, the city hopes to divert 90 percent of our trash away from the landfill. One way it hopes to achieve that goal is a six-month partnership, which started in September, with the Design, Technology, and Innovation Fellows. Austin Resource Recovery provides the financial muscle, while the wonks at DTI do the heavy lifting: research, design, development and project management. A big part of the research is finding out what makes Austinites different from residents of other cities when it comes to recycling needs. The public is invited to City Council chambers on Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m., to hear interviews the team conducted with residents across the city about their views on recycling. There will be opportunity to ask questions “as time allows.”
