Last year, the city didn’t quite get the results it was hoping for when it hosted a series of intimate discussions about important issues in community spaces around town. In a year (between May 2015 and July 2016), the city of Austin, Capital Metro and the Austin Independent School District hosted 200 such talks and reached 700 people. This year, the three entities are aiming for a much more robust public discussion. They hope to achieve that by training and empowering even more community members and changing the format to address multiple issues in meetings — something that takes into account how difficult it is for most people to spare several evenings of their already busy lives.
