Not all of us had the honor of attending Wednesday’s joint City Council/CodeNEXT Advisory Group meeting. But for those who did, newly minted Council Member Jimmy Flannigan has a small correction: The districts that have seen the most growth since the Council districts were drawn are Districts 5 and 6, as opposed to being concentrated in the more central parts of the city, as Council Member Ann Kitchen alluded to in the meeting with a reference to “parts of the city with rapid growth.” Flannigan explained, “I conferred with CM Kitchen about this already, but my concern with using phrases like that is that the community makes assumptions about where rapid growth is occurring. Undeniably, the growth we experience in D6 is felt in different ways than growth in more central areas. But I don’t want anyone in the community or on the dais to think rapid growth only happens in Central Austin.”
