The Lower Colorado River Authority and several of its wholesale customers are awarding $594,386 in grant money to community projects throughout the LCRA service territory, according to an announcement the authority released yesterday. The grants are part of the LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which awards funds twice each year. The newly awarded projects range “from providing life-saving equipment to volunteer fire departments and other first responders to improving parks, theaters and museums that help support local economies,” according to the announcement. The biggest awards are going to the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department, which will receive $50,000 for an addition to its fire station, and the Dale Community Center, which will receive $39,600 for new air conditioning. Smaller awards include $4,678 for a new backup radio system at the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office and $9,100 for a butterfly greenhouse and garden at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens.
