Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Texas’ appeal to reinstate its 2011 voter ID law, which the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals found violated the Civil Rights Act back in July. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton responded quickly with a statement expressing disappointment in the decision, though he remains confident the case will return for consideration stronger than ever. “Texas enacted a common sense voter ID law to safeguard the integrity of our elections, and we will continue to fight for the law in the district court, the 5th Circuit and, if necessary, the Supreme Court again,” Paxton said.
