Austin Resource Recovery hopes its Home Composting Rebate Program’s free chicken keeping classes can help move the city closer to achieving its Zero Waste goal. Over the next few months, the department will host five classes on what it takes to keep chickens in the backyard. Attendees can then purchase their chicken coop and fill out an online application for a $75 rebate. The rebate is limited to city of Austin customers who pay the Clean Community Fee on their utility bills. Customers who have received a Home Composting Rebate are ineligible. The first class is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 23 at the Mueller Farmer’s Market, 4209 Airport Blvd. Learn more about the program at austinrecycles.com or email composting-related questions to composting@austinrecycles.com.
