Council Member Greg Casar is proposing two resolutions at Thursday’s City Council meeting in response to state laws passed during the recent legislative session. The first resolution authorizes the city manager to take the state to court over Senate Bill 267, which bars municipalities from passing ordinances that ban landlords from refusing to serve tenants who pay part of their rent via Section 8 housing vouchers. Casar, along with housing activists and those who depend on housing vouchers, will hold a rally at noon today in front of City Hall, in support of the lawsuit. The second resolution takes aim at another bill the legislature approved that limits what municipalities can charge cellular companies to place network nodes in public rights of way.
