The city of Austin continues its efforts to help with the Hurricane Harvey recovery. Yesterday, the Austin Transportation Department announced it would respond to a request for supplies and other aid from the city of Victoria, which is just one of the municipalities on the Texas coast battered by Harvey. Austin crews – made up of 18 staffers, nine vehicles and a trailer – are scheduled to leave early this morning to help Victoria restore its destroyed roadway signage and damaged traffic signals. Also this morning, at a press conference in the LBJ High School gym, Mayor Steve Adler and Austin Independent School District Superintendent Paul Cruz will inform the public about plans to help families displaced by the storm. That will include connecting them with community resources and enrolling children in AISD schools. For those still looking for ways to help, Adler made a Facebook video yesterday to demonstrate how to make welcome kits for those in need.
