Assistant City Manager Bert Lumbreras will be starting his new job as city manager of San Marcos on Aug. 14, but he’s still running around Austin City Hall working and attending meetings. When the Austin Monitor caught up with him on Tuesday, he said his final day with Austin would be Aug. 11. Later he said via email, “I have been blessed to serve the City of Austin, great employees and fine community for the last 11 years. San Marcos has always been a big part of our life by giving us a great college education, start of my long career in public service and a community that feels like home. I am truly honored to be selected as City Manager and very much look forward to work with an exceptionally dedicated Mayor and City Council, tremendously committed and talented staff, and citizens who want and deserve the very best! I believe everything about this decision is right and can’t wait to start as we work collectively to help San Marcos realize a bright future.” There is no word yet on who will take over supervising the departments Lumbreras is leaving, including the Aviation Department, Development Services Department, Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department, Planning and Zoning Department, and Watershed Protection Department.
