During one of last week’s briefings on the city’s response to Hurricane Harvey, the Austin Monitor made note that all city departments “even the library” were pitching in to lend a hand. And, indeed, that is truly the case. Austin Public Library is inviting evacuees staying in the Austin area to sign up for free library cards. The cards will allow up to three physical checkouts, three holds on physical items and access to the virtual library until Dec. 31. According to a press release from the city, “Library Card applications must be made in person at any Austin Public Library. Any form of a photo identification will be accepted for people applying for an Evacuee Library Card. If an ID cannot be provided, please visit the Austin Public Library or call Customer Service at 512-974-7475 for additional options.”
