In addition to all of its other titles, Austin can now boast its status as a National Talent Hub. It’s a designation given by the Lumina Foundation, and comes with a $350,000 grant that will go toward helping low-income students continue their education. The Austin Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the efforts of a coalition of groups advocating for the award. According to a Monday press release, “As part of their plan, the coalition aims to target re-enrollment and completion support to nearly 70,000 college stop-outs. Stop-out is a term used when a student temporarily withdraws from school or a delays the pursuit of one’s education. The plan aligns with the Chamber’s DTC70 partnership with school districts to improve postsecondary attainment and further complement efforts under the Austin Metro Area Master Community Workforce Plan to up-skill 30,000 unemployed and underemployed adults through 2021.”
