After extended delays, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority came to terms with the contractor hired to complete the MoPac Improvement Project. Yesterday, the authority announced it would pay the contractor $21.5 million to end all disputes over the project’s delay and cut the remaining timeline for completion. Contractor CH2M has said it is owed $113 million due to costs tacked on due to delays, but this settlement “ensures that all future claims are off the table, avoiding a lengthy and costly court process,” according to Jeff Dailey, CTRMA’s deputy executive director. As a term of the settlement, CH2M agreed to finish the entire project by Oct. 27. The company could lose between $50,000 and $100,000 per day if it doesn’t meet that deadline.
