This year’s school enrollment numbers are in, and Austin Independent School District’s population continues to fall. This year, AISD’s student enrollment is at 81,939, which is a 1.56 percent decrease over the previous year. Broken down, 21,118 students are enrolled in high school, 16,064 are enrolled in middle school and 44,129 are enrolled in elementary school. There are 628 students attending special AISD campuses. In a press release, Reyne Telles, the district’s executive director of communications and community engagement, took a stab at explaining the falling enrollment, which continues a years-long trend. “I can certainly see a scenario in which this modest downturn could be attributed to several factors such as affordability, immigration and other issues,” said Telles.
