The city of Austin renewed its reuse vows on Oct. 19, when Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed the fifth annual Reuse Day. This proclamation demonstrates Austin’s “local commitment to the reuse sector and National Reuse Day, a nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging the purchase, use or donation of reusable, reclaimed and remanufactured products,” according to a city press release. Reuse also factors in to the city’s Zero Waste initiative, which has a goal of “25,000 tons of diversion through reuse by 2030.” Looking for somewhere to drop off your old household items? The Recycle and Reuse Drop-Off Center and the Austin Materials Marketplace are two great options. In addition, the Austin Reuse Directory will soon provide a helpful database that you can use to find the perfect home for all your gently used treasures.
