Next time you park at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, take a second to appreciate the “fresh new look” in three of the six close-in garage elevators. Elevators 4-6 are now quieter and more energy efficient, having been completely converted to run on 100 percent “biodegradable non-toxic hydraulic vegetable oil,” according to a city of Austin blog post. But that’s not all: Hydraulics systems have been overhauled and new air conditioning systems have been added, as well as shiny new interiors, flooring, signage and decorative trim made out of reclaimed stone. Elevators 1-3 are scheduled to receive their facelifts in early 2018. Currently, crews are working around the clock to update elevators “near Gate 13 that leads to the American Admirals Club, United Airlines Club and the Knot Anymore private treatment area.” The airport assures travelers that this area is still accessible by stairs, however, anyone anticipating a need for elevator access is welcome to call (512) 903-6010 for assistance.
