Michael Siegel, an assistant attorney with the city of Austin, filed for candidacy in the 2018 race for Texas’ 10th congressional district. He joins fellow Democrats Tawana Cadien, Richie DeGrow and Ryan Stone in challenging seven-time Republican incumbent Michael McCaul. In a press release, Siegel said that he was inspired by Democratic victories in the off-year election and that he plans in his campaign to expose how McCaul has “personally enriched himself” by supporting the recently passed tax bill. Siegel has made a name for himself working for the city’s Law Department, taking an aggressive approach in key substandard housing cases, including the city’s disputes with the owners of Cross Creek and Orchard Plaza apartments.
