Art in Public Places is commissioning pieces for its sixth annual temporary public exhibition, TEMPO. Ten artworks will be chosen to reside in a city-owned spot in each of the 10 City Council districts. The maximum budget for each project is $10,000. Artists are welcome to mention where they would like their art to go from a list of eligible locations; however, any request, whether it’s a district or a specific location, should be thought of as only a suggestion and is subject to change by the selection panel. The artwork will be exhibited in its district location from September to November. In November, all of the art will be collected and reinstalled at Edward Rendon Sr. Park, where it will be shown as a stop in the East Austin Studio Tour. Applicants must live and work in Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet or Blanco counties. The city is providing three information sessions about the exhibition and the application process: Jan. 31, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Dougherty Arts Center Artist Resource Center; Feb 15, 6-7 p.m. at the Georgetown Art Center; and Feb. 21, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Big Medium Gallery at Canopy.
