A number of mobile home parks in Austin are not zoned specifically for mobile homes, meaning that developers can easily purchase them and convert them into more profitable residential or commercial uses. On Thursday, City Council will take up a proposal to apply mobile home zoning to three existing mobile home parks in the hopes of preventing them from being redeveloped in the future. It also asks the city manager to identify other mobile home properties to be rezoned. The properties being rezoned if the measure passes on Thursday are at 8105 Research Blvd.; 1430 Frontier Valley Drive; and 7307, 7401 and 7403 E. Riverside Drive. Mayor Steve Adler and Council members Greg Casar, Pio Renteria and Delia Garza will hold a press conference on the issue at 9:30 a.m. in the City Hall media room, along with mobile home residents and leaders of Building and Strengthening Tenant Action (BASTA).
