Art in Public Places, a program of the city’s Cultural Arts Division, has been showcasing local artwork in public spaces for six years. This year, the city is expanding the TEMPO program from its traditional concept of a public work in each of the 10 City Council districts. TEMPO 2D will add 12 murals, and TEMPO Refresh will update Carl Trominski’s Moments, also known as the “blue signs” along the Lamar Bridge underpass. “The TEMPO program has introduced public art to many Austinites and visitors to our City and has highlighted the numerous ways it can enhance enjoyment of public spaces and encourage civic dialogue,” said Sue Lambe, manager of AIPP, in a city press release. “This year, through TEMPO 2D and TEMPO Refresh, we are able to share even more works that convey the City’s diverse perspectives.” The sculptural installations shown in the TEMPO program will be relocated and exhibited together as an official part of the East Austin Studio Tour.
