The city’s first electric buses launched this week, festooned with original artwork created by student artists from Campbell Elementary School. In a contest held by Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority and Creative Action, second- through fifth-graders at the school were given an assignment to make art around the theme of a healthier planet. The judges, who were chosen from community arts groups, selected 23 winners who were unveiled at a ceremony at the school last week. According to a news release, Capital Metro is “working on a new smart charging facility in North Austin, which, once complete, will be able to house and charge 214 electric buses (about half of the city’s current fleet).”
