New candidates on the radar

In 2016, District 4 Council Member Greg Casar swept to reelection victory with 61 percent of the vote. He had two opponents: Gonzalo Camacho, who got 23 percent of the vote, and Louis Herrin III, who got just 16 percent of the vote in the predominantly Hispanic district. Now the 2020 race is beginning to look a lot like 2016. Casar reported raising more than $73,000 on his campaign finance report last week. He has two opponents: Manuel Muñoz, who indicated that he had raised no money on his July 15 report, and Louis Herrin III, who just last week filed his appointment of campaign treasurer. He is doing the job himself, which should not be too difficult since he also filed a declaration stating he does not intend to accept more than $900 in political contributions or spend more than that amount. Over in District 7, Council Member Leslie Pool has one opponent, Morgan Witt, who announced her candidacy on July 1. Campaign finance reports filed July 15 only cover the period through June 30, so there is no indication of how much money Witt has raised. Her LinkedIn page indicates that she is a bilingual education advisor at LexisNexis Risk Solutions. Caroline Bailey is her campaign manager.
