The Travis County Commissioners Court meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. To help our readers stay informed, each week we offer a selection of interesting items from the voting session agenda. The entire agenda is available at the Travis County website. The meeting will be streamed live on the Travis County website.

Special Joint Meeting

Monitor’s Take: The Austin City Council will once again be joining the Commissioners Court remotely for a special joint meeting. Council members and commissioners will receive a Covid briefing from Austin Public Health officials Dr. Mark Escott and Stephanie Hayden-Howard. Last week, we heard that Covid cases in the county were declining for the second week in a row, an outcome, Escott says, that was driven by effective Covid policy and public safety measures. Tune in today to hear whether the trend continues. Expect the Covid brief, and the subsequent Q&A, to occupy the majority of the morning.

Item 2: Capital Area Council of Governments 50th anniversary celebration and update.

Monitor’s Take: Commissioners Brigid Shea and Ann Howard will oversee a discussion and update from Betty Voights, the executive director of Capital Area Council of Governments, as part of CAPCOG’s 50th anniversary celebration. CAPCOG has been administrating regional services, including 911 calls and law enforcement training, since 1970.

Item A1: Audit of ESD 2.

Monitor’s Take: Last fall, Pflugerville City Council petitioned to create a new emergency services district in Travis County – ESD 17. As part of that conversation, the commissioners will discuss Pflugerville’s request that Emergency Services District 2 undergo a financial and operational audit.
