The city of Austin has suspended regular operations through the end of Thursday, Feb. 2, due to the ongoing severe winter weather. According to an announcement from the city, “all essential public safety services and essential employees will continue responding to the winter weather event.” The Winter Storm Warning is expected to be lifted by the National Weather Service by Thursday morning, though the hazardous ice conditions continue to affect the roads and “a significant portion of our community, including employees, have been and will continue to be impacted by the loss of power, downed trees, and the expected continued closure of area schools.” For up-to-date alerts, visit the emergency information hub.
