Commissioners typically commit 20 hours per month to their duties in the volunteer position, with hearings scheduled twice per month and lasting a full business day. To qualify, applicants must be:
- A city of Austin resident
- A qualified voter of the city
- Preferably experienced in human resources, labor relations or labor/employment law
Ineligible applicants include current city of Austin employees and those required to register as lobbyists under city code.
