Pause on downtown events continues
Wednesday, October 13, 2021 by Elizabeth Pagano
The Austin Center for Events and Austin Transportation Department are recommending continuing the moratorium on downtown street events through 2022. According to an Oct. 12 memo, the sustained pause on new events is courtesy of a long list of construction projects that includes preliminary work on Project Connect. However, the memo notes that both departments recognize “the need to be flexible and responsive not only to the health of our citizens and visitors but to the economic health of the community.” In addition, the memo notes, protests will not be subject to the moratorium. Exemptions for smaller events may be granted, as well as for events outside of the downtown core. Read the memo, and its long list of construction projects, in its entirety here.
