They *are* our parks
Tuesday, October 17, 2017 by Elizabeth Pagano
Fall is here, and the Austin Parks Foundation’s “It’s My Park Day” is right around the corner. In fact, registration is now open for those willing to lend their talents to improving the city’s parks during the citywide event on Saturday, Nov. 4. According to APF, “Volunteer projects will include city-approved tree mulching, root collar clearing, habitat restoration, and trail maintenance, as well as park and creek cleanups.” This past spring, “3,200 volunteers produced a total of 10,000 hours of labor via almost 100 projects across Austin. That is equivalent to seven park maintenance employees working full-time for a year, representing an investment of over a quarter of a million dollars for Austin’s parks and green spaces.” For more information and registration, visit the Austin Parks Foundation site.
